Berkeley’s Backyard Music Foundation
Berkeley's Backyard Music Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making music education accessible for everyone. We believe that music has the power to change the world. Our goal is to provide a place where people of all ages and skill levels can grow and connect through music. To meet our goal we provide free music lessons, free live concerts, and community events.
As a nonprofit, every volunteer and community partnership directly supports our mission of expanding access to free music education and creating a healthy culture within the Provo music scene.

Music Lessons For Everyone
At Berkeley's Backyard Music Foundation, we believe that music should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, experience, or financial circumstances.
We offer free lessons taught by volunteer musicians who are committed to helping grow the community of Berkeley’s Backyard and the culture of the music scene in Provo.
Instruments We Teach
Guitar
Lessons can include chords, strumming, fingerstyle, scales, improvisation, music theory, songwriting, and lead guitar. Students can explore a variety of styles including rock, pop, jazz, blues, alternative rock, acoustic, and more.
Drums
Students will learn proper technique, rhythm reading, grooves, fills, dynamics, and how to play with a band while exploring many different musical styles.
Bass Guitar
Bass lessons focus on technique, rhythm, groove, fretboard knowledge, scales, music theory, and learning how to lock in with drums to create a strong rhythm section.
Voice
Develop your voice with lessons focused on healthy vocal technique, breathing, pitch, tone, range, performance, and confidence.
To provide every student with a high-quality learning experience, lesson availability is limited. Because our program is supported by volunteer instructors, the number of lesson openings depends on teacher availability and available teaching space.
Once all lesson spots have been filled, additional students will be placed on a waiting list and contacted as soon as an opening becomes available.
We encourage anyone interested in taking lessons to register early. While we do our best to accommodate everyone, we cannot guarantee immediate placement due to the limited number of instructors and lesson times.
Thank you for your patience and support as we continue growing our program and expanding opportunities for more students in our community.

Meet The Team
At Berkeley's Backyard Music Foundation, our teachers are musicians, creators, performers, and mentors who love sharing what they know with our students.
We believe learning music should be a place where students feel comfortable being themselves.
Our instructors bring their own unique styles and experiences into each lesson. Our team isn't just here to teach notes and techniques, we're here to help students discover confidence and a lifelong love for music.
Creating a safe and positive environment for our students and families is one of our biggest priorities. Every instructor and volunteer who works directly with students completes a thorough screening process before joining our team. This includes background checks, offense registry screening, and required child safety guidelines designed to help protect the students and families we serve.
Come meet the people behind Berkeley's Backyard!
